What the calculator measures
For your selected date, Moon Exactly calculates the Sun–Moon phase angle, illuminated fraction, elapsed time since the preceding New Moon, and whether the light is waxing or waning. It also finds the nearest major lunar events.
Why we use noon UTC
A calendar date is not an instant until a time and timezone are chosen. We intentionally interpret date-only selections at 12:00 UTC. This keeps 1997-08-14 as August 14 everywhere and reduces boundary ambiguity without pretending to know your location.
Result indexation
Individual date results are useful and shareable but excluded from the sitemap and marked noindex. That prevents millions of near-duplicate URLs while leaving substantial calendar and guide pages available to search engines.

Frequently asked questions
How accurate is the calculator?
It uses Astronomy Engine’s high-precision solar and lunar ephemeris calculations. Display values are sensibly rounded.
Does location change the phase?
No. At a given instant, lunar phase is effectively the same worldwide. Apparent orientation and rise/set times do change.
Can I use historical dates?
Yes, within the supported 1600–2400 range. Very old historical calendar conventions can differ from the proleptic Gregorian date system used here.
